In June, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin announced plans to rewrite media ownership rules. If he gets his way, Martin will open the floodgates to wholesale consolidation of local newspaper, radio and television outlets.
Martin promised to hold "half a dozen public hearings around the country" on media ownership. We need to hold him to his pledge to involve the public in this critical debate.
Let's keep Chairman Martin honest. Ask him for a FCC media ownership hearing in your hometown. Before Martin hands control of local media to concentrated giants like News Corp, Tribune and Clear Channel, he needs to hear from you.
